New Glass

A new piece of glass made from "pattern bars". a technique where you stack glass and heat it up to about 1700F and allow the glass to "flow".

All of the squares started as 2" X 2" on top of a piece of clear glass, inside a stainless steel ring to contain the glass. The piece is about 16" in diameter and 1/2" thick.

This piece is at the at the Freed Gallery in Lincoln City Oregon.

This week we delivered fresh work to our favorite gallery. Freed Gallery is in Lincoln City Oregon , which is a very up scale gallery on the Oregon coast it has a wide variety of paintings, sculpture and glass. Lee Freed the owner found me at our first art show in Portland and asked me to bring work to her gallery. I have been in this gallery now for about five years. NICHE Entry

This is the piece I entered into the NICHE magazine Annual Artist competition. It is selected as a finalist in the glass category with the potential of being selected as a class winner. The announcement of the class winners will be made February 18th at the Buyers Market of American Craft in Philadelphia on February 18th. The bowl will be on display during the Craft Show.

I entered a competition in the NICHE magazine which is a magazine to promote artists to galleries and art shows. They have an annual competition for different artistic mediums. Of the 2000 entries in the different classes I was one of the finalists in the glass category. The piece picked will be on display at the Buyers Market of American Craft in Philadelphia, February 18th- 20th. Announcement of the top show winners will be made at the show on February 18th.

New Geode Bowl

This is my latest Geode bowl it is roughly 6" in height and 9" in diameter. The glass is spring green and black, these have become two of my favorite colors working with the Geode Bowls and the geometric designs.

The latest in the" Little Women" series, titled the" Women of Fukushima" after the horrific earthquake. The piece is 16" in diameter and approximately 6" total in height with the women being 2" tall.

Portland Open Studios

The weekend of October 15th and 16th I will be participating in Portland Open Studios. There will be 100 artists in the Portland area showing and demonstrating the work in their studio. My studio is in the Aquila Glass School at 1628 N Columbia Blvd. and I will be in the studio between 10:AM and 5:PM both days. All of the glass shown in the photo is my work.

Little Women II: What Planet Are You From

Here is the second of the Little Women series: What Planet Are You From

There are 16 women total, three or four are inside of the bowl and not shown in this view. The piece measures 22" diameter and is 6.5" high, the little women are 2" tall.

This piece was commissioned by a collector who saw the original Little Women on display in a glass show. Like the original Little Women this is a collaborative work with a fellow teacher and studio partner Leah Pellegrini. I make the "Saturn" bowl and Leah made the women.

Little Women

I have been working with a friend and studio partner Leah Pellegrini on this piece. Leah made the "Little Women", I fused and slumped the black "Saturn" bowl. I have had the idea for this for over a year but had to make the mold for slumping it and working out the bugs to get the final shape. the piece is 22" in diameter and 6" high. The "Little Women" are 2" tall.

Saturn Bowl

One of my latest pieces; Saturn Bowl. It is 22" in diameter and about 10" high. It started as an experiment to see if I could "drop" a bowl through a + 22" circle, it worked ! After it was completed I thought it look great with a top or cover on it so I slumped a bowl, made a marble and attached it to the under side of the bowl and made a lid for the lower bowl. For an experiment I think it turned out pretty cool.

This is the latest of the "Geode Bowl" series. It is three layers thick, black, white and red with at grid design.

The bowl is 9" in diameter and 7" high.

Latest Glass

My latest glass is a two piece combination of a deep bowl and a large platter. The bowl is 7" high X 9" diameter, the platter is 22" square and 1" deep. The glass is a "Curious" glass, only five sheets of this glass were made and I was able to get four of the sheets. The two colors are French Vanilla and Khaki. The neat thing about "Curious " glass is that it will most likely never be made again because it is left over glass from standard production runs.

I am participating in Portland Open Studios this year. There are about 100 artists in the Portland area that will open their studios for the weekends of Oct. 9&10, and the 16th and 17th. You can visit their studios and talk to them about their art and see their recent work.
This is my work at the studio I work and teach at, Aquila Glass in Portland Oregon.

This is my latest in the Geode Bowl series. It is a variation of my ABRACADABRA Series. This time using spring green and black for the mosaic effect. The bowl is 9 3/8" in diameter and 6 1/2" in height at the tip. It has a high gloss interior with a satin finish on the outside. The top edge has been cold worked and polished.

This is the most recent Dinnerware set we had as a commission project. It was comprised of [8] eight, [3] three piece place settings and a serving tray. The large plates are 10.5" X 10.5", the salad plates are 8" X 8", the square bowl is 8" X 8" and the serving tray was 11" X 17".

Sharon has named it Hammerhead Dinnerware because she had to hand hammer sheet glass into frit [pieces of glass].

This is one of the Geode Bowl Series that was accepted in an all glass show in Sequim Washington. I was also asked to give an artist talk during the show.

It is 6" tall and 9" in diameter.

Abracadabra Series

The latest piece in my Abracadabra Series. This is a shallow bowl 16 inches in diameter. instead of using the squares I used in the past I made some slices of color.

New Edition

I have started a new edition of Geode Bowls. These are 12" diameter and about 5.5" high at the tip. I have so far been using linear patterns over lapping transparent and opaque glass in two layers on each other. i also cold work the top edge for a finished look.

Here is one of my latest pieces. This is one of my "Geode Bowl Series" #16.

It is fused, slumped and cold worked.

It is 5 1/2 inches tall, 9 inches in diameter.

I will be doing First Thursday Art Walk in the "Pearl" July 1st at Pacific Garden.

I will also be doing the First Friday Art Walk in Troutdale Oregon on July 2nd at the Caswell Gallery.
